Vancouver's Chris Higgins looks to sister, Special Olympians for inspiration

Any time Chris Higgins needs motivation while recovering from a broken foot suffered in training camp, he does not have to look far. Higgins' older sister, Jeanne, was once told she would never walk but ended up becoming a Special Olympics swimmer.

"My sister is testament to the fact that it’s only in your head — you can push through it and there are no limits for the kids," Higgins told the Vancouver Province. "My sister was told she was never going to walk and it took her five years, but she’s walking."

On Tuesday, Higgins joined his teammates at the annual Sports Celebrities Festival gala which supports the Canucks For Kids Fund and Special Olympics B.C. The event gave the Canucks the chance to meet athletes who have beaten all the odds in order to succeed.

Higgins is also back on the ice skating now that he is a month out from his injury, but he told the Province there is still no concrete timetable for his return to the lineup.
