Montreal Canadiens Move Mikhail Sergachev for Jonathan Drouin
The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning Have Completed a Monster Trade That Moved Drouin and a Top Prospect.
Thursday evening surprised us all with a dandy of a deal as the Montreal Canadiens traded away top tier prospect Mikhail Sergachev and a conditional second round pick in 2018 to the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward Jonathan Drouin and a conditional sixth round pick in 2018. Drouin who is now 22 years old has recently had a lot of drama around his name in Tampa not liking the role he was playing and wanted more minutes.

A few seasons ago he was actually demoted for his behavior and how he handled the situation by not reporting to their AHL affiliate in Syracuse. But when he came back he was solid. And last season he notched 21 goals and 32 assists in 73 games for the Bolts. And so far throughout his NHL career, Drouin has posted 29 goals, 66 assists for 95 points in 164 career games. He's also coming off of a $9.7 million dollar contract.
Sergachev the first round selection by Montreal in the 2016 draft has been a superstar in the OHL putting up 100 points in 117 games with a career plus 37 rating. He had a short stint with Montreal at the start of last season that saw him appear in four games not registering a single point. However, his potential is massive and Tampa Bay just got themselves a gem of a player that can step in this season and really help bolster the blueline.
As for Drouin in Montreal, the Canadiens have needed some scoring on the wings and if he is paired with Alex Galchenyuk and Brendan Gallagher, he's going to do some serious damage and possibly eclipse the 30 goal mark for the first time in his career. However, moving someone like Sergachev may have been a step backward, plus the second round pick for a sixth rounder doesn't really even itself out either.
