CALGARY, Alberta (AP) Sean Monahan had the clinching goal in the shootout and two assists in regulation, helping the Calgary Flames rally for a 4-3 victory over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night.
Monahan's shootout goal was the last of three on Antti Niemi, with Joe Colborne and Johnny Gaudreau also finding the net.
Patrick Sharp scored in the shootout for the Stars, who were eliminated on Monahan's goal because Tyler Seguin hit the post on Dallas' initial shot.
Gaudreau, Mikael Backlund and Dougie Hamilton scored in regulation for Calgary, which kicked off a five-game homestand with its fifth win in a row at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Jason Spezza, Cody Eakin and Mattias Janmark scored for the Stars, who are tied with Montreal for the most points in the NHL. Dallas is 6-0-1 in its last seven road games.
The Flames trailed 3-0 after two, but quickly got back in the game in the third.
Just 1:51 into the period, Backlund whacked the puck into Niemi's pad three times before getting it up and over for his third goal of the season.
Seventy seconds later, the Flames pulled within one. Again, Niemi made the initial save, but Calgary swarmed to the net and Gaudreau hammered in Monahan's rebound.
The Flames tied it 17:42 into the third. Monahan sent a pass into the slot to Hamilton, who fired a rising wrist shot past Niemi from 40 feet out, setting off a loud ovation from the home crowd.
Janmark's first goal in 18 games at 11:16 of the second period gave the Stars a 3-0 lead. Janmark carried the puck into the Flames' end and tucked in his fourth goal of the season.
Niemi finished with 29 stops. Karri Ramo had 26 saves.
It didn't take long for Dallas to find the net. At 1:48 of the first, Spezza cut in off the wing and zipped a shot over the glove off Ramo and just under the crossbar.
The Flames had two breakaways in the first period. Sam Bennett broke in off the wing and made a nice move to his forehand, but he was denied by a sprawling Niemi. A few minutes later, Mason Raymond charged in but was also stopped.
NOTES: The Flames adjusted their lines, with David Jones joining Monahan and Gaudreau on the top unit and Jiri Hudler switching to a line with Markus Granlund and Bennett. ... Calgary defenseman Ladislav Smid dressed in place of Deryk Engelland, playing just his second game in the last 37 days.
