Jagr on 44th birthday: 'I feel the same as I felt when I was 34'

Published Feb. 15, 2016 3:20 p.m. ET

Florida Panthers veteran forward Jaromir Jagr is treating his 44th birthday much like any other day.

The future Hall of Famer showed up at BB&T Center on Monday as the Panthers (32-18-6) were slated to face the Pittsburgh Penguins (28-19-7), who selected Jagr with the fifth overall pick in the 1990 draft. The veteran didn't alter his routine and admitted that taking the ice was a fine way to spend his birthday - as long as the Atlantic Division-leading Panthers win the contest.

Via the Miami Herald:

"It doesn't matter how many birthdays you have in your life, it's all a matter (of) how you feel. I feel the same as I felt when I was 34."

Jagr, who is on record as saying he'd like to play until he's 50, is performing at a high rate - regardless of age.

The veteran's 40 points (17 goals, 23 assists) are tied with 22-year-old forward Jonathan Huberdeau for the team lead.
