Former NHL forward Wojtek Wolski is in intensive care following a terrifying crash into the boards during a KHL game this week.

On Thursday, the Metallurg Magnitogorsk winger slid head-first into the boards while pursuing a loose puck during the third period. The collision (below) was awkward and frightening and is very difficult to watch.

Wolski had to be stretchered off the ice and taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. According to the team, he was diagnosed with a “fracture of the seventh and fourth cervical vertebrae of the cervical spinal cord, brain concussion, bruises and abrasions on the face.”

The 30-year-old remains in intensive care and is unlikely to play hockey again this season. Despite the incident, he appears to be staying positive.

Wolski spent eight seasons in the NHL, last playing for the Washington Capitals in 2012-2013. He has 267 career points (including 99 goals) as a member of the Avalanche, Coyotes, Rangers Panthers and Caps.
