AHL center makes insane save to protect empty net

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:20 a.m. ET

The 27 saves that goaltender Chris Driedger made in an American Hockey League victory Saturday didn't add up to the one ridiculous stop that journeyman center Bud Holloway made in a loss.

Diving just beyond the crease to protect an empty net, Holloway used his stick to bat a puck out of the air. The third view on the video is the best:

It wasn't enough to keep his St. John's IceCaps from losing 4-1 to the host Binghamton Senators, but it was good enough to create online buzz.

Even the Senators' Twitter account gave Hollaway the proper respect.

If it doesn't stand up as the save of the year, it will at least be in the conversation.
