Porter has surgery, could miss a month

Published Oct. 6, 2010 1:00 a.m. ET

Saints coach Sean Payton says Tracy Porter had arthroscopic surgery to repair the lateral meniscus in his left knee and that the starting cornerback is expected to be sidelined three to four weeks.

Payton says the club also has placed backup safety and special teams contributor Chris Reis on injured reserve with a season-ending shoulder injury.

Porter was injured on Sunday while pursing Carolina's Jimmy Clausen during a quarterback scramble. Porter left the game after the play, but then returned to the game.

After practice on Wednesday, Payton said Porter wound up having surgery this week and the team re-signed cornerback Leigh Torrence.
