Jets' Thomas seeking probation

Published Jan. 8, 2013 12:00 a.m. ET

The NFL says it is monitoring a case involving New York Jets linebacker Bryan Thomas, who was arrested in October after being accused of assaulting his wife and possessing marijuana paraphernalia and painkillers.

The Daily Record of Morristown, N.J., reports Tuesday that Thomas is applying for admission into a probation program that requires no admission of guilt. The newspaper reports that Thomas, scheduled to become a free agent in March, was arrested Oct. 31, according to Morristown Superior Court records.

In a statement, the Jets say they are ''aware of the report,'' and declined comment ''until the legal process has run its course.'' NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says the situation ''will be reviewed under our league policies at the appropriate time.''
