Gurley becomes third Rams rookie to rush for 1,000 yards

St. Louis Rams rookie running back Todd Gurley reached the 1,000-yard mark in Thursday's matchup against the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Gurley made it a memorable milestone, hitting 1,000 yards on the nose on a 3-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter. It was the ninth rushing TD for Gurley, who missed the first two games of the season while working his way back from a knee injury sustained at Georgia in November 2014.
“It feels good, like I said, it’s a big accomplishment,” Gurley said. “But it’ll be something you look back at down the road.”
The No. 10 overall pick in this year's draft, Gurley became the third Rams rookie to rush for 1,000 yards, joining Hall of Famers Jerome Bettis (1993) and Eric Dickerson (1983). Overall, Gurley had a quiet night with 48 yards on 21 carries.
“He got a late start, as we all know,” coach Jeff Fisher said. “Everybody knows we’re going to run it, and he still got 1,000. That speaks volumes for him.”
Gurley made NFL history by becoming the first rookie to rush for at least 125 yards in each of his first four starts. His five games with at least 125 rushing yards are the most by a rookie since Dickerson registered seven in 1983.
