Throughout the preseason Whalen caught seven passes for 75 yards. Most of his production came in week four against the Tennessee Titans in which he caught five of his passes for 48 yards.
What’s the signing mean to Miami? They no longer have an option for a player that’s familiar with the system. That could prove to be vital if DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry or any of the other receivers get hurt over the course of the season. However they do have one receiver on their practice squad: rookie Rashawn Scott.
The signing of Justin Hunter is what dropped Whalen out of contention of suiting up for Miami this season.
Speaking of Hunter, he’s played just one snap in Miami’s first two games of the season. While he was brought in late there’s little excuse for the former Titans wide receiver. Sam Bradford came in late to quarterback the Minnesota Vikings and was impressive in last nights victory against the Green Bay Packers.
