Bengals' McCarron hopes to be first Alabama QB to get NFL win since 1987

The University of Alabama may have three national championships in the last decade, but it’s been a lot longer since one of its quarterbacks has enjoyed a win as a starter in the NFL. Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron is hoping to change that.

Brodie Croyle? Nope, the former third-round pick was 0-10 as a starter with the Chiefs. Greg McElroy lost his only start with the Jets in 2012. From there, you'd have to skip over the likes of John Parker Wilson and Jay Barker to get to career backup Jeff Rutledge, who picked up two wins in 1987 with the Giants, via For The Win

McCarron will be looking to get the Crimson Tide on the board now that he'll be starting games in place of the injured Andy Dalton. McCarron quarterbacked Alabama to back-to-back national championships and threw his first NFL touchdown pass in Sunday's loss to Pittsburgh after Dalton exited with a broken thumb in the first quarter. McCarron finished 22 of 32 for 280 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions.

McCarron isn't lacking in confidence, comparing his situation to Tom Brady's back in 2001, when Brady took over for Drew Bledsoe down the stretch and led the Patriots to the Super Bowl. His first shot at getting the Bengals -- and the Tide, technically -- a win will come Sunday in San Francisco against the 4-9 49ers.
