The Spurs think they're too good for the three-point line; are correct

The San Antonio Spurs and their longtime head coach Gregg Popovich aren't big fans of the three-point line, and we're seeing that complicated relationship play out this season, with a team that's below average in attempts from behind the arc.

But in a league that loves the outside shot more and more every year, how is San Antonio ignoring it and still smoking its opponents?

Here's a closer look, courtesy of The Washington Post:

The Spurs have pretty good three-point shooters on their roster, but Popovich is wise to utilize a style that showcases his best players' strengths.

If that means passing, moving, setting screens and controlling tempo, then so be it. Wins are more important than three-point baskets.

Popovich is smart enough to know what does and doesn’t win in today’s NBA. If he says he doesn’t like the three-point shot — I believe him. But he is also smart enough to know that if he didn’t have a world-class defense, going back to the three-point shot more frequently would be the right move. Especially if he thought it would win him a sixth NBA title.
