Sixers announce that Ben Simmons is shut down for season

On Friday morning Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations and general manager Bryan Colangelo announced that No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons would miss the entirety of his rookie season.

The team made the decision after doctors looked at a scan of Simmons' foot. The Australian wing has missed all of this regular season so far after fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during a preseason game for the Sixers.

"The scan indicated there's not full healing in the bone," Colangelo said.

Simmons underwent the scan on Thursday, the same day the Sixers sent big man Nerlens Noel to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for a protected first-round pick and Justin Anderson.
