Report: Pistons sign Aron Baynes away from Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs are reportedly a tad lighter in the frontcourt. Aron Baynes, their stable fourth big over the past couple seasons, has moved on to Detroit, where he'll presumably grab a larger role backing up Pistons franchise center Andre Drummond.
Baynes nearly doubled most of his per game averages last year, appearing in 70 games before getting shredded by Blake Griffin in the postseason.
But he has decent hands, plays with intelligence and is a big, physical body on the glass. Baynes also has modest touch around the rim and is a brick wall setting picks on and off the ball.
San Antonio already dumped Tiago Splitter on the Atlanta Hawks, meaning if they don't land LaMarcus Aldridge over the next few days their frontcourt could be a bit thin behind Tim Duncan and Boris Diaw. Still, this wasn't a contract they were interested in matching, and rightfully so.
