Former NBA champ Byron Scott filed for divorce from his wife of 27 years a few days ago, according to a report on TMZ.

Scott, who won three titles in the late '80s with the Lakers, met Anita Scott at a Los Angeles nightclub some three decades ago, though both grew up in the Los Angeles area. Byron was a local basketball star at Morningside High School. Anita was a cheerleader at nearby Fairfax and just one year ahead of him.

The couple has three grown children.

Scott went on to coach the Nets, Hornets and Cavaliers after playing for three teams over a 14-year career. He was fired from his most recent coaching job in Cleveland in April of 2013.

He was named Coach of the Year with the New Orleans Hornets in 2008.
