The Los Angeles Lakers hired one of the stars from their Showtime era on Monday.

Lakers legend James Worthy was added to Byron Scott's staff. Worthy will work with the team's big men and will accompany the team to Hawaii for training camp and work with the players throughout the season.

"James was one of the best forwards to ever play the game," Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said of the seven-time All-Star. "We feel he will be a valuable addition to the coaching staff and will do an excellent job teaching our group of big men. We are pleased and fortunate to welcome him back to the organization."

In other Lakers news, Kobe Bryant reported Monday to his 20th training camp with the team, joining veterans including Metta World Peace and Roy Hibbert playing alongside with a talented group of untested young players.

Bryant's last three seasons ended early due to injuries, and he has played just 41 games in the past two years.

Bryant intends to mentor No. 2 pick D'Angelo Russell, whose locker is next to his.
