Karl-Anthony Towns could be one critical piece among many
If the Minnesota Timberwolves do right and select Karl-Anthony Towns with the first overall pick in this year's draft, they'll likely get a franchise-altering centerpiece. Even with Anthony Wiggins already onboard, this is the type of addition who can change everything.
Here's Bleacher Report's Adam Fromal with more on how Towns may be the player Minnesota's been waiting for (if they take him), but so many other areas need fixing before this team is ready to contend:
"Towns, thanks to his offensive versatility, can likely suit up next to either Dieng or Pekovic, which gives the Wolves even more options in the immediate and distant future. He's the future frontcourt centerpiece, and the ability to play next to almost anyone is quite nice. And of course, that's saying nothing of his ability to shore up the team's biggest weakness: rim protection. We've gone over that in detail before, and the points still stand."
If they make Towns their long-term center, the Timberwolves will then need to figure out what they're doing at head coach, and which of their young pieces are worth keeping around. One draft pick won't cure all ills, but it's a fantastic start—if they take Towns.
