Jimmer Fredette is back in the NBA, even if Melo doesn't know his name
If you've been itching for a Jimmer Fredette NBA comeback, you're in luck — and you have the New York Knicks to thank.
In 30 games this season with the Westchester Knicks, New York's D-League affiliate, Fredette has averaged 21.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.8 assists while shooting 40.5 percent from deep. And that's apparently enough to earn him a call-up to the big leagues, as the team announced on Monday the signing of Fredette to a 10-day contract. He will be eligible to play in the Knicks' Monday game against the Toronto Raptors.

Fredette was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft after winning NCAA Player of the Year honors with BYU during the 2010-11 NCAA season. He's averaged 6.0 points, 1.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists to go with 38.0 percent shooting on 3-pointers in 233 career regular-season NBA games. New York is the fourth team for which Fredette will have played in his five-year NBA career.
The Knicks could use some depth at the guard positions, and Fredette is a warm body who can dribble a basketball and shoot. Just don't expect teammates like Carmelo Anthony to muster much enthusiasm for Fredette's signing?
Jimmy ... Jimmer ... whatever. It's all the same thing to Fredette:
If you let him shoot and pay him to play basketball, you can call him whatever (respectful) nickname you'd like.
