Jason Terry guarantees the Rockets will beat the Warriors in Game 5
It's do-or-die time for the Houston Rockets, and veteran guard Jason Terry is pushing all his chips to the center of the table.
Despite being down 3-1 to the defending champion Golden State Warriors and the series headed back to the Bay Area, Terry told ESPN that he's guaranteeing that the Rockets will win Wednesday's Game 5.
"I'm guaranteeing it," Terry said Tuesday. "If I don't, then what? It's a loss, right. I guarantee victory -- that's what it's going to take. I believe in my group. I know we can get a win here and send this thing back to Houston."
Terry might believe in his group but few others do after the Rockets were outscored 41-20 in the third quarter of Game 4. That run came after the Warriors were told that reigning MVP Stephen Curry would not play the rest of the game after injuring his knee. The Rockets could have taken advantage of the situation at home, but instead they were dealt a humbling 121-94 loss.
But making guarantees isn't new territory for Terry, who got a tattoo of the Larry O'Brien trophy before the 2010-11 season while playing for the Mavericks. Dallas would go on to upset the Heat to win the franchise's first title.
Terry added Tuesday that if the Rockets can win a title this season, he would add another tattoo of the championship trophy. But with Houston down 3-1 to a Golden State team that has not had Curry in most of the series, it's safe to say Terry won't have to make any tattoo appointments come June.
