Doctor told 11-year-old LeBron something that almost killed NBA dream
LeBron James has wanted to be an NBA star for as long as he can remember. But a routine sports physical at age 11 nearly crushed the future Hall of Famer's NBA dream.
The doctor told James that he'd grow to be around 6-3, nearly five inches shy of the 6-8 he'd eventually reach.
"When your idols are Michael Jordan and Penny Hardaway, you're like [expletive]," James told cleveland.com. "You're looking on the back of basketball cards and it says M.J. 6-6, Penny Hardaway 6-7, Grant Hill 6-8, you're like, 'I'm only going to be 6-3? Golly. My dreams are shattered.' That's how it made me feel."
James, who was about 5-7 at age 11, reached 6-3 by his freshman year of high school, dashing the doctor's prognostication.
"I thought I was all done," LeBron told the outlet when he first heard what the doctor said. But all that changed once he reached 6-3.
"Nah, once I was that tall at that age, I felt pretty good about my chances."
Yeah, we'd say so after four MVPs and two NBA titles, it all worked out pretty well for King James.
