Could the Mavericks target another combo-guard in the draft?

Published Jun. 1, 2015 12:33 p.m. ET

The Dallas Mavericks have multiple needs to address with the 21st pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. After the trade for Rajon Rondo ended in disaster, the Mavericks have an uncertain backcourt situation this offseaosn.

J.J. Barea is set to become a free agent, and Raymond Felton has a player option worth $4.5 million that he will almost certainly accept. Devin Harris is on contract. Monta Ellis also has a player option worth $9 million, but Ellis could very well opt out and attempt to gain long-term financial security in free agency.

With that in mind, could the Mavericks target another combo-guard in the draft to help solidify the backcourt? Here's Eddie Sefko of the Dallas Morning News with more on a potential target for the Mavs in Cameron Payne from Murray State:

"He’s a terrific shooter from long range, but also averaged six assists last season as a sophomore for the Racers. The Mavericks have had a nice run with Monta Ellis as an undersized shooting guard and there is evidence that Payne would be a better ballhandler than Ellis has been. And he clearly has the outside shot to succeed in the NBA. He hit nearly 38 percent from beyond the arc last season."
