The Charlotte Hornets were defeated, 104-86, by the Boston Celtics in their third preseason game. The Hornets are now 0-3 during the exhibition games and have been struggling in some facets. This was the second half of a home-and-home series with Boston during the preseason with the Celtics coming out on top in both games.

This game took place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut as the Celtics played outside of Boston in an attempt to bring games to fans outside of their city. The court is home to the Connecticut Sun of the WNBA. The strange designs made for some interesting dialogue on social media.

Kemba Walker started in his second straight game but was on a minutes restriction once again. Brian Roberts returned but only in limited minutes. Cody Zeller, Mike Tobey, and Perry Ellis were all out due to injuries.

Charlotte were also without Marvin Williams and Nicolas Batum who both sat out to get some rest. This gave Steve Clifford a chance to play some younger guys and get a better look at fringe player who are fighting for a roster spot. They will likely return in the team’s next preseason game.

The Hornets were led by Christian Wood who scored a team-high 13 points to go along with seven rebounds. Frank Kaminsky recorded a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Kidd-Gilchrist struggled with his shot but scored 11 points. Roy Hibbert grabbed nine rebounds in this one.

Jordan Mickey led the Celtics with16 points and six rebounds. Tyler Zeller scored 14 points while Gerald Green scored 13. R.J. Hunter rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points. Boston shot an impressive 44.4% from the field and their good shot selection helped lead them to the win.

Quick Stings

The Hornets have now lost both preseason games against the Boston Celtics. The two teams will play four times during the regular season with the first meeting coming in the third game of the year. Hopefully Charlotte play better against them in the regular season than they did in these exhibition games.

The Charlotte Hornets will be looking to rebound in their next preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 10th. They will return home as the game will take place at the Spectrum Center. Charlotte will be looking for their first preseason win in that one.
