Alvin Gentry angrily announces that the Pelicans are out of the playoff race
The New Orlean Pelicans' Thursday night game against the San Antonio is a chance to put a dent in the six-game lead the Houston Rockets have on them for the 8-seed in the Western Conference!
Sort of. I mean, their record against the Rockets is 1-3, so it's really more like seven games, and well, they still have to leapfrog over the Utah Jazz, the Sacramento Kings, and the Denver Nuggets so, you know what? Never mind. Let's just forget about the whole thing.
In a parrallel universe all of those things might've been possible, but here, in this reality, on Planet Earth, the Pelicans need to turn their attention to the upcoming draft.
After acquiring Gentry and re-signing human pterodactyl and future galactic superstar Anthony Davis in the offseason, the Pelicans seemed set to improve on a first-round appearance in last year's playoffs. That all went out the window with a host of injuries and a disastrous 1-11 start, and things haven't gotten loads better since with their current record sitting at 23-36.
Gentry's comment might not be what Pelicans fans were hoping to hear, but -- and I hate saying this almost as much as I hate hearing it -- there's always next year.
