2016 free agent Eric Gordon hopes to remain with Pelicans

Eric Gordon says he's the healthiest he's been since 2011 as he gets set to begin the upcoming season.

If true, that could be excellent news, at least from a personal financial perspective.

Gordon will be an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the upcoming season, and while playing well in a contract year could help to increase his value on the open market, he hopes to remain in New Orleans, at least at this early stage.

Nick Weldon of SB Nation:

It's way too soon to try to figure out if this means anything at all, especially when you consider the fact that every team in the league will have a ton of money to spend on talent next summer, thanks to the salary cap spiking upwards of 30 percent before the 2016-17 season begins.

But playing alongside a talent like Anthony Davis can be enough to leave some money on the table if Gordon believes New Orleans is the right situation.

What’s inarguable: Gordon feels healthy and happy—at the same time—for the first time in years. After once nearly putting New Orleans in the rearview, the 2016 free-agent-to-be can’t see leaving.

“I like the guys on this team and I think we can do some good things in the future,” he says. “I’m like, why not?”
