Editor’s note: Updated 4:30 p.m.

The weather is looking better and better for tonight’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (FOX, 5:30 p.m. ET), which should go well past halfway at the very least.

NASCAR’s longest race might not go the full distance but it should easily make it past the halfway point, which would make it official.

The good news is the forecast has steadily improved as the day has gone on.

As of  4:30  p.m. ET, weather.com says there’s a zero percent change of rain at 6 p.m., only 5 percent at 7 p.m. and just 15 percent at 8 p.m., which is great. But as the night goes on, the chance of rain increases, with showers possibly beginning around 9:45 p.m.

With a green-flag time of 6:09 p.m., the race should be deep into the late stages by 9:45 p.m. Barring a surprise, the worst-case scenario now appears to be getting the race in at less than full distance.

FOXSports.com will have weather updates throughout the day.
