Montoya stays with Earnhardt Ganassi

One of NASCAR’s last remaining prized free agents is staying home next season.

Former Formula One star Juan Pablo Montoya is sticking with Earnhardt Ganassi Racing in 2012.

“Yes. Yes. I’ll be driving this car next year,” Montoya said, declining to elaborate on any further details.

Earnhardt Ganassi Racing, previously Chip Ganassi Racing, is the only organization Montoya has competed for in NASCAR since he made a highly publicized jump from Formula One in 2006.

In 179 Sprint Cup Series races, the partnership has produced two wins — both on road courses — 20 top-five finishes and 49 top-10s.

Montoya’s greatest success with the outfit has come in other forms of racing. In open-wheel competition, he won the 2000 CART championship and the 2001 Indianapolis 500 driving for team owner Chip Ganassi. He also has won the Grand-Am Rolex 24 at Daytona two of the five times he has competed in it.
