Keselowski pleased with performance at Penske Racing

Hey race fans!

Man, it has been a busy few weeks for everyone here at Penske Racing. We’re winning races and announcing new sponsors. It’s an exciting time to be a part of this team. All of these cool things that are happening around us are exactly why I chose to make the move here at the end of last season.

When I joined Penske Racing, it was very important to me to have the opportunity to run the full Nationwide Series season in 2010. I’m a big fan of the series and we were fortunate enough to bring on some great partners in Discount Tire and Ruby Tuesday that wanted to share in that with us. When Paul Wolfe signed on to become my crew chief I figured we could win some races and contend for the championship because he is as talented a crew chief as there is in the Nationwide garage.

To say that I thought it would happen this soon would be crazy. We’ve won two races, led a bunch of laps and we are a serious threat to win every week. We’re leading the points – and the view from the top is nice – but we still have a lot of work to do before getting Mr. Penske his first NASCAR championship. As I’ve said before, that would be the highlight of my racing career.

A couple of weeks ago it was announced that I will be driving the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge – the “Blue Deuce” – in Cup next year. That was a pretty unbelievable moment for me when I was told that I would be driving one of the most recognized cars in all of motorsports. I grew up watching that car with Rusty Wallace behind the wheel. It was a “pinch me” moment when I was handed the keys, so to speak. It really was a great day for Penske Racing as a whole. We were able to add Shell/Pennzoil to our list of partners and that made us a stronger organization almost immediately.

Everyone at Penske Racing believes in what is going on inside the walls of our shop and it has shown in the performance of our cars. Save some bad luck during a couple of races, we would be squarely in the middle of Chase contention in the Cup series. There are some good tracks coming up for me, and for the team, that should give us an opportunity to make up some ground. Dover, Michigan and Loudon have all been good to me in the past.

Right in the middle of those races is the two weeks we get to spend at home racing at Charlotte. Even growing up in Michigan, I understood what those two weeks meant to everyone in the sport. To win at Charlotte gives you extra bragging rights over everyone because it is the home track.

Before I leave I had to pass this piece of information along. If you can pick up FOX Sports Net Detroit on your TV, you’ll be able to watch me throw out the first pitch of the New York Yankees-Detroit Tigers game on Thursday afternoon. Now, I’ve been practicing and I’m expecting to hit the mitt. It should be a great time and I’m looking forward to going back home for a few hours.
