JTG Daugherty, Richard Childress to team in 2014

The JTG Daugherty Racing/Richard Childress Racing technical alliance is official.

JTGDR officials announced on Monday that the No. 47 team will switch to Chevrolets next season as AJ Allmendinger takes over the seat full-time. The relationship will also include Earnhardt Childress Racing Engines as well as engineering support for 2014.

“We certainly appreciate all the support that TRD (Toyota Racing Development) has provided to JTG Daugherty Racing for five years and we are great fans of their business model,” JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said in a release.

“As a single-car team, we feel that aligning directly with a successful multi-car organization like Richard Childress Racing is what will work best for us in 2014.”

JTGDR will enjoy a similar partnership to one Furniture Row Racing currently shares with RCR. Tommy Baldwin Racing’s No. 7 Chevy driver Michael Annett will also use ECR engines.

JTGDR’s roots began in the NASCAR Nationwide Series 15 seasons ago but progressed into the Sprint Cup Series in 2008 with Marcos Ambrose at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The following August, Ambrose posted a second-place finish at Watkins Glen International — the company’s best effort to date.

After three seasons with former Cup champion Bobby Labonte, Allmendinger transitioned into the program this season. Allmendinger posted the team's only top 10 at WGI in August.

“With our RCR alliance and AJ behind the wheel, we are looking forward to a fresh start in 2014,” Geschickter added.
