How Mark Martin found out he was in the Hall of Fame

Published Jun. 1, 2016 10:09 a.m. ET

So where was Mark Martin when he got the call that he was voted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2017?

The 40-time NASCAR Cup Series winner was cleaning the bugs off the front of his motorhome after driving from Arkansas to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 100th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Martin joined Benny Parsons, Rick Hendrick, Richard Childress and Raymond Parks in the 2017 class.

Martin never earned a championship, but he's arugably the best driver to never do so, finishing second in the standings five times throughout his legendary career -- 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002 and 2009.

Martin was on FS1's NASCAR Race Hub on Tuesday to talk about the achievement.
