Full results from Practice No. 1 for Monster Energy Series at Las Vegas

Published Mar. 10, 2017 3:51 p.m. ET

Martin Truex Jr. was fastest in Friday’s first practice for this Sunday’s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

But it’s pretty obvious that he’ll have plenty of competition in the Kobalt 400 (live on FOX, with green flag set for 3:46 p.m. ET), beginning with last week’s race winner at Atlanta in Brad Keselowski.

Keselowski appeared to pick up pretty much right where he left off last Sunday, as the driver of the No. 2 Team Penske Ford turned his fastest lap at 191.891 miles per hour and was second on the speed chart to only Truex (193.500 mph) for Friday’s lone practice.

“Whenever you have a race win the week prior, you have a lot of momentum and a lot of confidence – and that always seems to serve you well,” Keselowski said in the media center prior to going out for the 85-minute session.

Rounding out the top five on the speed chart were defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson (192.988 mph), Kyle Larson (192.719 mph) and Matt Kenseth (192.644 mph).

Keselowski not only won at Atlanta last Sunday, but also is the defending race winner at Vegas. So it’s a 1.5-mile track he knows and likes – and it showed in Friday’s practice.

“Las Vegas is a track where we kind of hit on something the last few years and I’m looking forward to putting that in action,” he said. “We’re ready to keep rolling.”
