Final practice results: Kasey Kahne, Jimmie Johnson turn fastest laps

Hendrick Motorsports' Kasey Kahne ended Friday's final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice session at Texas Motor Speedway atop the leaderboard with a lap of 28.276 seconds at 190.975 mph.

In a session in which teams switched between qualifying and race trim, the top 10 was often shuffling, but Kahne and his teammate Jimmie Johnson were constant figures at the top.

Johnson posted the second-fastest lap of the session of 28.343 seconds at 190.523. Jamie McMurray, Denny Hamlin, Casey Mears, Ryan Blaney, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch, Alex Bowman and Ryan Newman rounded out the top 10.

McMurray ran the most laps of the session (56) and told FOXSports.com the unique Friday schedule made it difficult to manage tires. But the driver of the No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates Chevrolet said the team was able to manage their set-up tires well and were able to make gains throughout the session.

Joe Gibbs Racing's David Ragan had the best 10-consecutive-lap average, followed by Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick, McMurray and Newman.  

Trevor Bayne made only one lap in the session, after electrical issues sent the team scrambling. The driver of the No. 6 Roush Fenway Racing Ford was one of the first cars on the track, but the motor shut off twice while on track.

Once in the garage, the team went to work changing out the entire electrical system. The team was able to get Bayne back on track in time to complete one lap before the session came to an end.

"I hate to lose an hour of practice, but it's better than over 100 laps fixing it during the race," Bayne told FOXSports.com.

Qualifying will take place Friday at 6:30 p.m. ET and can be seen on FOX Sports 1.
