Chase scare: Keselowski suffers damage in first Talladega wreck

The first caution of the day in Sunday's Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway was not the result of a typical "Big One" that tears up numerous cars, but it did provide a serious scare to Chase contender Brad Keselowski.

The incident occurred on Lap 59 when Jamie McMurray cut a tire and lost control of his No. 1 Chevrolet at the front of the field while exiting Turn 4. Coming back down the track, McMurray hit Keselowski in the right-side door before collecting Michael McDowell and Joey Logano.

Chase contenders Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch also sustained slight damage in the incident, but were able to avoid major damage.

While Logano and McMurray got the worst of the damage, Keselowski's team quickly went to work making repairs to the right-side door of his No. 2 Team Penske Ford.

"It's not destroyed, but it's pushed in. I see zero damage behind the exhaust," Keselowski's spotter Joey Meier reported to the crew.

Entering the day outside the top eight in the Chase standings after rough outings at Kansas Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway, Keselowski's only real hope to advance in the championship battle is to win Sunday's race.

The team was able to make repairs to the car and keep Keselowski on the lead lap and in the thick of the battle in the pack when the race restarted.
