Austin Dillon to attempt Cup debut

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Austin Dillon will attempt to make his NASCAR Sprint Cup debut this season.

Dillon, the grandson of team owner Richard Childress, will drive the No. 98 Curb-Agajanian Chevrolet with sponsorship from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation's Centennial Celebration and the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma.

The specific race for his debut in a Cup car will be announced at a later date.

"It's an honor and a privilege to be part of the Ronald Reagan Centennial Celebration as a Co-Chair of the National Youth Leadership Committee," said Dillon, who turns 21 later this month. "President Reagan was always one of my grandfather's, Richard Childress, heroes, so I grew up hearing about the president's strong leadership abilities and family values. Those are two qualities I carry with me in my career as a NASCAR driver by being a strong leader for my team and making my family proud of my accomplishments on and off the track."

Dillon is in his second full season of Truck competition. He earned the 2010 rookie of the year honor after winning two races. He earned 16 top-10 finishes, as well, finishing fifth in the series standings. He set a rookie record with seven pole positions in his debut year.

In the 1980s, Mike Curb helped reunite car owner Richard Childress with Dale Earnhardt Sr. The pair went on to win 67 races and six NASCAR Cup championships in the No. 3 Chevrolets.
