Zach Osborne has been fined $7,500 by the AMA for his last-lap collision with Joey Savatgy at the Las Vegas Supercross. He gets to keep the 250 SX Eastern Regional Championship.

An appeal was lodged by Osborne and his team against the decision, but it was upheld.

Osborne made an aggressive pass on championship rival Joey Savatgy for seventh place on the last lap of the 250SX Main Event that gave him just enough points to win the championship. Had he remained behind Savatgy, Savatgy would’ve won the title.

The contact resulted in Savatgy going down and dropping back in the order. While neither rider was injured, the race director determined that Osborne was in violation of the rule Appendix A.2.c.17:

A2 General Offenses and Penalties

i. The following offenses will be subject to disciplinary action by the Race Director and/or the competent bodies. This list is provided as guidance to licensed competitors and event credential holders but does not restrict AMA from invoking penalties for other actions detrimental to the sport that are not specifically contemplated herein.

17. Riding on or off the track at any time in such a manner as to endanger the life or limb of other riders, officials or the public.
