Puig sits out with strained shoulder

Published Jun. 12, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Rookie Yasiel Puig has been scratched from the starting lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers' game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The team says he won't play Wednesday night because he has a strained right shoulder. There was no immediate explanation of how Puig hurt himself, although he participated in the seventh-inning brawl that occurred during Tuesday night's game and was one of six players and coaches ejected.

Puig is hitting .471 with 10 RBIs and four homers in his first 1 1/2 weeks in the major leagues. The 22-year-old Cuban defector was replaced in the cleanup spot by Jerry Hairston Jr.
