Orioles look to avoid sweep by Blue Jays (Apr 10, 2018)

BALTIMORE -- The Toronto Blue Jays have shut down the Baltimore offense in the first two games of this series and will try to complete the three-game sweep on Wednesday night at Camden Yards.

Marco Estrada (1-0, 2.77) is set to start for Toronto (8-4), and the Orioles (4-8) always have struggled against him. The right-hander has a 7-1 career record versus Baltimore with a 3.22 ERA in 15 games (13 starts),

However, Baltimore starter Kevin Gausman (0-1, 8.00) has pitched well against the Jays. He has a 5-3 career mark with a 3.12 ERA in 18 games (13 starts).

The Orioles are going to hope they can find some offense against Estrada as they have not done much so far. Toronto has held the Orioles to two runs in the first two games -- one in each contest.

In fact, the Orioles did not even get a hit off Blue Jay starter Aaron Sanchez until the eighth inning of Tuesday's 2-1 loss and finished with only three overall. Toronto won the game on a Curtis Granderson solo homer off Darren O'Day in the ninth.

Manager John Gibbons was hoping Sanchez could eat up some innings and said so before the game.

"Our bullpen could use a little breather," Gibbons said in the Toronto Sun on Tuesday.

The Orioles got nine hits in Monday's 7-1 loss but couldn't come through with runners in scoring position in that contest.

Baltimore has gone 2-for-16 with runners in scoring position in the first two games.

Sanchez (1-1) allowed one run on three hits in eight innings after Monday starter J.A. Happ gave up one run on five hits in that victory.

The Blue Jays put Kendrys Morales on the 10-day disabled list with a hamstring injury. He came out early during the game Monday after straining his right hamstring.

The Orioles recalled right-hander Yefry Ramirez from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday and designated fellow relief pitcher Nelson Cortes, Jr. for assignment. Cortes was a Rule 5 pick who already allowed two grand slams this season -- one in Houston last week and the other in Monday's 7-1 loss to the Blue Jays.

Mark Trumbo went 0-for-3 on his first game of a rehab assignment with Double-A Bowie on Tuesday night. Trumbo is on the disabled list with a right quad strain and has not played yet this season with the Orioles.

Manager Buck Showalter said that Colby Rasmus was set to have an MRI Tuesday on his left hip flexor strain. That injury put him on the disabled list this past Saturday during the series in New York with the Yankees.

"I don't know if they like the progression he's made in the last couple of days," Showalter said in The Baltimore Sun on Tuesday. "But I think (head trainer) Brian (Ebel) and the doctors were going to do it anyway once we kind of settled back in, just to check the site and make sure there's nothing going on there."
