Nationals bring up Mench from Triple-A Syracuse

Published Aug. 6, 2010 7:51 p.m. ET

The Washington Nationals have selected outfielder Kevin Mench's contract from Triple-A Syracuse.

The move was made Friday night before Washington's game at the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Mench fills the roster spot of outfielder Nyjer Morgan, who went on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of a right hip injury.

Mench was hitting .249 with three homers and 40 RBIs in 87 games at Syracuse this season. He hasn't played in the majors since 2008 with the Toronto Blue Jays. He has played for three teams in seven big league seasons.
