Benches clear after Yankees take issue with bat-flip by Astros' Gomez

Carlos Gomez is a fiery competitor. Sometimes, his intensity on the diamond irritates the opposition, a scenario that has played out a few times over the course of his career. 

On Tuesday, another chapter in this saga developed in the Bronx during a game between the Houston Astros and New York Yankees. 

With the Astros cruising with a 9-0 lead in the sixth inning, Gomez exhibited some negative emotion after flying out to center field. The aggression seemed to be directed at himself, but on his way back to the dugout some members of the Yankees appeared to take issue with his display. Eventually, the benches cleared for a non-eventful 'incident' around home plate:

After the game, Gomez clarified what happened when speaking with Julia Morales of ROOT Sports: 

Yankees manager Joe Girardi also commented on the affair with Jesse Spector of the Sporting News, though his comments were a bit more pointed: 

This wasn't the first time something like this has happened involving Gomez, and it most likely won't be the last, considering how aggressively he plays the game.
