UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky updates fans on a timetable for his decision to leave the Tar Heels for the NFL Draft or return to the team

The North Carolina Tar Heels are preparing for their final football game of the season as they take on Stanford in the Sun Bowl.

As we lead up to the game on December 30, the big storyline continues to be the decision quarterback Mitch Trubisky is facing.

Many believe Trubisky can be a first round pick and even a top five pick in the 2017 NFL Draft this April. His stock has never been higher and he could leave the school, putting the Tar Heels in search of a new quarterback.

Trubisky hasn’t made his decision just yet and he’s not tipping his hand either.

On Monday, the quarterback spoke to the media for the first time in a few weeks as UNC is prepping for the game.

He revealed some interesting tidbits on his decision including a grade from the college advisory committee which includes NFL scouts. The grade is an average of scouts and where he could land in the draft.

Trubisky revealed that he received a first round grade by the scouting committee.

“It’s just a first-round grade and I’m trying to see if I can get more in-depth information around it,” Trubisky said via Inside Carolina.

A first round grade on an evaluation is pretty damn good but it doesn’t mean Trubisky is for sure entering the draft. The quarterback broke down some of the factors in his decision-making process which includes discussions with his family, his stock in the draft and preparation.

Trubisky really focused on mentioning the preparation as one of the biggest factors in his decision.

Hype around the quarterback has continued to build through the year and most mock drafts have him going in the top 5.

There are a few teams in the top 5 that could use quarterbacks including Trubisky’s hometown team, the Cleveland Browns at No. 1.

San Francisco will likely have the No. 2 pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears will likely be No. 3 and No. 4. All three of those teams could be searching for a quarterback as well.

More recently the New York Jets have also expressed interest and will be picking in the Top 10.

The quarterback will discuss the situation with his family after the Tar Heels play in the Sun Bowl meaning his decision won’t come until January.

The deadline to declare for the NFL Draft for underclassman is January 16th. Stay tuned for more on Trubisky and his big decision.
