Tressel reacts to selection for OSU Athletics Hall of Fame

BY foxsports • June 11, 2015

Jim Tressel, known as The Senator during his time as Ohio State head coach at least in part because of his talent for giving political answers, hasn't lost his touch with the media.

"I think you're surprised for a lot of reasons," he told ESPN.com one day after Ohio State announced Tressel as part of the 2015 class that will be inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame

There is a specific reason most would expect him to be surprised.

Of course he has the resume -- including seven Big Ten championships and a national title in 10 seasons leading the Buckeyes -- but Tressel resigned under pressure in May 2011 after admitting he had withheld information about NCAA violations committed by two of his players. Ultimately he received a five-year show-cause penalty that will not have expired yet when he is officially inducted into the hall of fame in September.

"You know you're not perfect," Tressel added. "You look at the lists of people who are in those halls of fame and you don't put yourself in that class. There are a lot of reasons."

Classic Senator Tressel.
