Many have publicly stated their objection to Alabama essentially having two defensive coordinators on staff heading into the playoff game against Michigan State. While Kirby Smart has been named the new head coach at Georgia, he's decided to stay on while his replacement, Jeremy Pruitt, has already begun working for the Tide.

But it's not as if Alabama is allowed to have an additional coach over opposing teams. Smart is only handling game prep while Pruitt has taken over his recruiting responsibilities, in fact, Pruitt is not allowed to coach on the field until the Tide's playoff run comes ton an end.

Following Wednesday's team practice, head coach Nick Saban was asked to discuss his decision to bring Pruitt back to Alabama's staff.

“It’s always difficult to find someone who knows our system and our scheme,” Saban said. “So to be able to bring somebody back like that I think really helps. New energy, new enthusiasm, new ideas, but somebody who really understands what we do.”

The Alabama coach also wished to ensure his message was clear and that no other candidate was considered for the position.

“I said it was a no-brainer,” Saban said. “So, when it’s a no-brainer, I don’t know that there is a process. What’s no-brainer mean to you? I don’t know. What it means to me — I’ll define it — is there was no doubt about who I was going to hire. Didn’t interview anybody. Didn’t talk to anybody. Just hired the guy. He worked here for six years.”
