Orgeron finally comes back home
Of all the coaching changes this offseason at LSU, the one hire fans approved immediately from the start was the hiring of Louisiana native Ed Orgeron as the defensive line coach. With Orgeron's love of Louisiana's greatest institution and his success already achieved on the recruiting trail in only a few short months, the hire appears to be a match made in heaven.
"I've always wanted to an LSU Tiger. I love it everyday," Orgeron told The News Star. "When I was at USC I always wanted to come to Louisiana and recruit. I'd get asked if I was going to recruit California and I'd say no I'm leaving for Louisiana."
Since Orgeron has been on the Tigers' staff, the team has picked up commitments from five-star defensive back Saivion Smith, four-star athlete Cameron Lewis and four-star defensive lineman Edwin Alexander. These commits have come in large part to the recruiting efforts of Orgeron.
With four more highly coveted defensive linemen in the state of Louisiana for this recruiting cycle, don't be shocked if LSU lands each and every one of them. Orgeron has a history of producing NFL defensive linemen and will look to repeat that success in the Bayou.
Fans are wondering how good the defense will be this season following the departure of John Chavis and the hiring of Kevin Steele at coordinator. LSU returns eight starters on defense this season, including three on the defensive line.
"Coach Steele does a great job and we're working together," Orgeron said. "We're making progress on a daily basis and we've got some guys that are performing well but we've got a big summer and fall camp ahead of us to get ready for the season."
