Ohio State Recruiting: More Good News for the Buckeyes

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Five-star defensive back Shaun Wade was an early commit to the Ohio State recruiting class but many recruiting “experts” had him de-committing and going to another school, probably Alabama. According to reports by 247 Sports and 11 Warriors, Wade has decided Ohio State is where he wants to play college football.

With the possibility of losing two or three defensive backs to the NFL in the spring, that’s definitely good news for the Buckeyes. Malik Hooker, Marshon Lattimore and Gareon Conley could be moving on.

Wade continued to tell everyone he was sticking to his commitment to play for the Buckeyes but he continued to visit other schools. Everyone in the south was attempting to reel in the No. 4 cornerback in the nation.

It appears Wade will enroll early at Ohio State so he may be signed, sealed and delivered soon.

11 Warriors had other good info as well. Urban Meyer and his crew Zach Smith and Kerry Coombs visited the No. 1 ranked wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones from Detroit’s Cass Tech, in a snow storm, before the recruiting dead period kicks in.

Can you imagine being snowed in with the ultra hyper Coombs. I would have agreed to anything to get him to leave.

Also, Buckeye recruit Tate Martell of Bishop Gorman won the Gatorade Player of the Year in Nevada. Just one more feather in his cap before he enrolls at Ohio State, as if the quarterback needed another.

It may be the recruiting dead period for coaches, but not for players. Martell has been the lead recruiter since committing to the Buckeyes so you know he will be in touch with Peoples-Jones before he announces his college choice on Thursday. Martell would love to have another star wide receiver in the class.

Finally, I have to say I told you so. In a recent article I said that the Urban Meyer-Jim Harbaugh rivalry might be a two-year battle not a ten-year war. Have you heard the rumor that Harbaugh could be leaving Michigan to coach the Los Angeles Rams? Just sayin.
