Ohio State Football: With Curtis Samuel's Run Milestones Were Reached
Two milestones for Ohio State.
Curtis Samuel’s 15 yard touchdown run in overtime versus Michigan was one of the most exciting plays Buckeye fans have seen in the many years ‘The Game’ has been played. Not only did it bring home a win for Ohio State, the run resulted in two milestones being reached.
The first one was Samuel reaching the 700 yard mark rushing on the season. The second was Urban Meyer becoming the first Ohio State head coach ever to win his first five games against Michigan.
Everyone knows Urban Meyer has been searching for the next Percy Harvin, a player who can run for 700 yards and catch passes for 800 more. He has now found that guy. Samuel has 704 yards rushing and 822 yards receiving for the season.

And just think about what Samuel’s game winning touchdown did for Urban Meyer’s legacy, like he needed help in that regard. With all of the great coaches who have walked the sidelines at Ohio State, none ever won their first five games against Michigan.
The legendary Francis Schmidt convinced his players that the Wolverine players put their pants on the same way the Buckeyes did, one leg at a time. Then proceeded to win the first four times he coached in “The Game”. But he didn’t win the fifth.
Paul Brown coached the first Ohio State National Championship team in 1942 but was 1-1-1 against Michigan. And while the great Woody Hayes had a lot of success against TTUN, he lost his first two games against them. Coach Jim Tressel lost his third game against Michigan even though he had tremendous success in the rivalry.
Urban Meyer still has a ways to go to match either Woody or coach Tressel in the total wins category against Michigan. But he will always be remembered as the Ohio State coach who won his first five games.
Saturday’s win against the Wolverines was an instant classic that’s for sure. Curtis Samuel’s 15 yard run brought home the win, and in the process two milestones were reached as well.
