Meet Mr. July 2014 in Florida Gators calendar: Aaron Hernandez

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 2:17 a.m. ET

Florida Gators fans who own the football team’s 2014 wall calendar received a surprise Tuesday when they turned the page from June to July.

That’s because Aaron Hernandez is Mr. July.

So how does an alleged murderer end up gracing the month of July in a football calendar?

First of all, the Gators say they weren’t in charge of the calendar’s distribution, as it’s a licensed product from Turner Licensing. They also say the approval process for the calendar was during the spring of 2013 — a few months prior to Hernandez’s June arrest for the alleged murder of Odin Lloyd.

Either there is absolutely no way to change one picture in a calendar months before its release, or somebody forgot that they approved Hernandez’s picture in the calendar after his arrest. If in fact there was no way they could’ve made the quick alteration to the calendar, then the Gators and Turner Licensing get a pass.

But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter. Hernandez is still staring fans down from their walls in Gainesville.

It might be best for fans who own this calendar to fast forward to August.
