Kellen Davis, Lawrence Thomas make Jets' 53-man roster
Former Michigan State stars Kellen Davis and Lawrence Thomas have made the New York Jets’ 53-man roster.
It’s hard enough to make a 53-man roster in the NFL, but doing so as an undrafted rookie is darn near impossible. Former Michigan State defensive end Lawrence Thomas did just that last week after a strong preseason in which he impressed Jets coaches.

After finishing the preseason with seven total tackles and a strong impression during practices and workouts over the past month, Thomas has made the 53-man roster of the Jets.
This shouldn’t come as that big of a shock since he was expected to be drafted back in April/May, but his name was never called. After putting up 38 total tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks as a senior at Michigan State, Thomas signed with the Jets as an UDFA and went to work.
It’s going to be interesting to see how much he plays with the Jets this season and if they use him in a regular rotation or if he’s a deep depth chart guy.
Thomas isn’t the only former Spartan to make the Jets, though. Veteran tight end Kellen Davis has also made the squad for the second straight season with New York.
Last season, he caught just three passes for 18 yards and a touchdown. Over his career with the Jets, Seahawks and Bears, Davis has 53 catches for 579 yards and 13 touchdowns. He’ll likely just be a depth guy once again.
