Horns' prized '16 QB commit preparing for early graduation
Before the 2015 season can even arrive, Texas Longhorns fans are salivating for 2016 and quarterback commit Shane Buechele.
Beuchele on Friday showed how eagerly he's awaiting his move to Austin, announcing on Twitterthat he plans to graduate high school a semester early so he can enroll at Texas in January 2016. That allows him to go through spring drills and get a jump on an almost certain quarterback competition.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound dual threat quarterback out of Arlington, Texas, is being looked upon as the great savior at a position that Texas has failed to fill successfully since Colt McCoy left the national championship game at the end of the 2009 season.
The Longhorns finished 6-7 in 2014 with first-year starter Tyrone Swoopes having to replace David Ash early in the season. Swoopes was mostly inconsistent, and is now locked in a competition with redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard.
Incoming freshman Kai Locksley, a late commit, who was originally slated to attend Florida State, will enter the competition when fall camp opens in August.
