Former LSU Tigers come up big in Saturday night game
Saturday night’s game was a huge one – not only for the AFC South playoff picture, but for a small bunch of former LSU Tigers as well.
The Christmas Eve contest hosted a trio of LSU Football alums, with wide receiver Brandon LaFell and running back Jeremy Hill on the offensive front for the Cincinnati Bengals, and running back Alfred Blue playing for the Houston Texans.
While Hill failed to be productive due to a knee injury he sustained earlier on this season, LaFell and Blue each played a major role for their respective offenses.
For the Bengals, LaFell racked up a total of 6 catches for 130 yards, including an 86 yard touchdown – the only touchdown Cincinnati would score all night. The touchdown was the second-longest reception of the wide receiver’s career, with the longest being the 91-yarder he scored against the Carolina Panthers in 2011.

Blue made a fairly significant contribution to the Texans team, rushing for a total of 73 yards and averaging 3.5 yards per carry. Like LaFell, the running back also scored his team’s only touchdown of the night with a 1-yard run to put up six on the scoreboard for the Texans.
For Hill, LaFell and their fellow Bengals teammates, the season is essentially over as Cincinnati has been totally eliminated from playoff contention.
But for Blue and the Texans, it’s an entirely different story. With the Christmas Eve win, the Texans officially clinch the AFC South and will be headed to the playoffs for the second year in a row.
