College football odds Week 2: How to bet Wake Forest-Vanderbilt

Updated Sep. 10, 2022 11:22 a.m. ET

The No. 23-ranked Demon Deacons of Wake Forest head over to Nashville for a nonconference matchup against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday.

Wake Forest enters the Week 2 fray with a 44-19 victory over VMI in Week 1. Meanwhile, Vanderbilt has an extra game under its belt already this season, after bowling through Hawaii in a 63-10 smackdown and earning a much shakier win over Elon, with a final score of 42-31. This is the first time that Vandy has gone 2-0 to start the season since 2018.

The Demon Deacons and Commodores have not faced each other head to head since 2013, and the Commodores have taken the last three victories in the history of this matchup. However, Wake Forest's QB Sam Hartman, who has been out with a non-football injury since August, will return healthy and ready to get back into action against Vanderbilt. With Hartman back, the No. 23-ranked Demon Deacons are ready to bring the heat against the unranked Commodores.

Here's everything you need from a betting perspective on the game between Wake Forest and Vanderbilt from the point spread, moneyline and total over/under (odds via FOX Bet).

Wake Forest forced one turnover against VMI (one fumble recovery). The Deacons now have forced a turnover in 16-straight games dating back to the 2020 Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

Additionally, the Deacons have forced a turnover in 32 of their last 33 games dating back to Sept. 28, 2019. The lone contest without a turnover was Wake Forest’s regular-season finale at Louisville in 2020.

Over the past seven seasons, Wake Forest has a combined +43 turnover margin.

Wake Forest has scored first in 28 of their last 37 games or 76 percent, holding a 22-6 record when scoring first, tied with Oklahoma and trailing only Alabama (81%) and Clemson (78%).

Vanderbilt’s 105 points through its first two games are its most since scoring 128 in the first two games of the 1916 season.

The last time Vandy started 2-0 at home was in 2018. They ended up 5-2 at home that season.
