The WVU Basketball team won Bob Huggins his 800th career game on Saturday, and on Sunday celebrated with the kids at WVU’s Children’s Hospital.
Students are already on break from classes. If faculty isn’t, they will be shortly. For the student-athlete’s on the Mountaineers’ basketball team, well, they just don’t quit!

Usually they’re sporting shorts, a jersey and some clean Nike’s in a fierce full-court press, but on Sunday it was all smiles, elf-like gear and Santa hats – except for senior Nate Adrian. The players walked around the hospital handing out autographed basketballs, foam fingers and posters, but it was the gift they received that made the biggest difference; seeing those kids (and parents) smile. When people do things like this, it shouldn’t be for any personal gain or satisfaction, but rather to benefit others; Bob Huggins gets that.
What is it about West Virginia athletics? We wrote about Tony Gibson doing more than his share for the holidays, and a day later the basketball team does this. Are WVU athletics a good representation of the West Virginia community? With acts like these, it surely reflects well. And both of these coaches are from the state, making it mean that much more to them. Take a page from the Mountaineers’ playbook over the holiday season and spread some good vibes and cheer.
